Program Description

Informed consent remains a foundational component of patient-centered care, yet healthcare organizations continue to face challenges in ensuring patients fully understand their treatment options, associated risks, and expected outcomes. As digital technologies and artificial intelligence become more integrated into healthcare delivery, organizations have new opportunities to enhance patient education, improve documentation, and reduce risk.

This session will explore the current state of informed consent through the perspectives of nursing leadership, healthcare operations, and risk management. Panelists will discuss common challenges in the consent process, the role of digital consent solutions in improving patient understanding, the importance of governance and standardized clinical content, and emerging opportunities for artificial intelligence to support more personalized and effective patient communication. Special consideration will be given to the risk management implications of informed consent practices within today's evolving healthcare environment.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify key risks and challenges associated with traditional informed consent processes and their impact on patient understanding and organizational liability.
  2. Describe how digital consent technologies, standardized clinical content, and governance practices can improve compliance, patient engagement, and risk mitigation.
  3. Evaluate the potential opportunities and risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence to support informed consent and patient education in healthcare settings.
